Exterior house painting in Pictou County

Nova Scotia weather is hard on paint. Wind-driven rain, salt air off the Northumberland Strait and long freeze-thaw winters all wear a finish down. I prep and paint your home so the finish holds up.

Prep is the job

Peeling and blistering usually come from what's underneath the paint. Before I paint, I wash the surface, scrape and sand loose paint, prime bare wood, and caulk open joints. That's what lets the new coat bond properly and last through the next few winters.

Booking the season

Exterior paint needs dry weather and mild temperatures to cure properly, so most outside work in Pictou County happens from late spring to early fall. Spring estimates fill up quickly, so get in touch early if you'd like your house done this year.

Curb appeal and resale

A fresh exterior is one of the quickest ways to make a house look cared for. If you're planning to sell, I can help you pick colours that suit the house and the street.

Where I work

I'm based in New Glasgow and offer exterior painting across Pictou County, including New Glasgow, Stellarton, Westville, Trenton, Pictou.

Questions about exterior painting

How often should a house be repainted in Nova Scotia?

It depends on the siding, how much sun and weather the walls get and how well the last job was prepped. Most homes need it every several years. South-facing walls and homes near the water usually need it sooner.

Can you paint over peeling paint?

Not without prep. Loose paint has to be scraped and sanded first, and bare spots primed. Otherwise the new coat peels along with the old one.

What happens if it rains?

I watch the forecast and won't paint when rain or cold would ruin the finish. If the weather turns, I reschedule rather than rush the job.
